Fighting game go a long way back and started their rise to fame in arcades as it took people’s quarters in troves as gamers competed to be the king of fighters. Fighting games have never been on good terms with the PC platform, though, and many of the big fighting game names are not available on PC and can only be played in either arcades or consoles, but that doesn’t mean the computer gamers are left out on some great fighters. Here are 5 of the best fighting games available on Windows/MAC:
Street Fighter Series
The mommy of all fighting games on almost every gaming platform available in the entire planet. Almost everyone, even those that don’t even play games, are aware of the signature “Hadouken” move that this game has invented. Starting from Street Fighter IV, it has become available to play on the PC via Steam and is a beast of a game, all the way to Street Fighter V. Take your pick from more than 30 fighters including the iconic Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, and a lot of other martial arts combatants, each with a story of their own in joining the huge martial arts tournament. Battle 1 on 1 against a computer or another player in this awesome fighting game that has spanned decades, and is still being developed to become even better.
Guilty Gear Series
The Guilty Gear games has been, and most likely will always will be, one of the best Anime 2D fighting games that has been created, and understandably as well. The game features tons of different characters that shine through the great artwork. Guilty Gear is well known for its solid mechanics and gameplay as well as the well animated and sometimes hilarious move sets of the wide variety of characters. Fights take one the same 1 on 1 experience as other fighters (aside from Guilty Gear: Isuka, which has you playing a 2 on 2 simultaneous battle). If you’ve been looking for a fighting game that has well-made animations, hilarious characters, and an overall fun time, then Guilty Gear is a nice game to start with.
Rareware’s answer to the slowly growing fighting genre during the 90’s was Killer Instinct. The game came out in arcades to huge success because of bringing the fighting game genre a step forward, being the first fighting game to be rendered in 2.5D without using pre-rendered sprites like Mortal Kombat. The animation at the time was superb and the mechanics were tight, making it a huge hit and having people wanting more. After more than a decade, the follow up to the game, which is given the same title, has been released by Rareware for Microsoft platforms (Xbox One and Windows) and is even more awesome than the original. The mechanics are now even more solid with a great combo and super system. New characters were added to the fray making it an even weirder, but equally amazing, cast. Killer Instinct is a great PC fighting game if you want one with great graphics, good looking characters, and amazing animation.
Injustice: Gods Among Us
For all the people that have been fighting over who would win in a fist fight between Superman, Batman, and the Flash, well here’s your chance to settle that old school playground argument. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game available for PC and some consoles that lets you play as many of your favourite DC characters, heroes and villains alike! Take control of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Joker, Deathstroke, and even sidekicks like Nightwing as you duke it out with another DC character. The game was created using the Mortal Kombat engine and looks great in all platforms where it’s available while also having solid fighting mechanics. Each superhero and villain has their own unique moveset and well animated moves and supers (the supers, by the way, are great to watch and so satisfying to do). If you like fighting games and DC comics characters, then Injustice: Gods Among Us is undeniably a great game to play on your PC! There’s also a flash version available!
Naruto Shippuden Ninja Storm Series
Many of Anime game adaptations have never been good, you can take a look at some of the old ones like Ranma (fighting game for the SNES), Sailormoon (same as Ranma), or Yu Yu Hakusho, but the Naruto Fighting Games has been one of the first Anime Game adaptations that has actually been successful. This fighting game is a 3D fighting game that gives you control over one of the Naruto cast (the cast changes depending on the version of the game) in a fighting arena also from the Anime series. You’ve got Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, Yamato, Sai, Might Guy, Rock Lee, and a lot more of the characters along with the moves they are known for like Naruto’s Rasengan and Sasuke’s Chidori. You fight with a few different options for each fight, like if you’d like a solo one on one fight, or a battle with a partner character that will assist you in each fight. If Anime and Fighting games is your thing, then the Naruto fighting games for PC is something you might want to try out!
