Original Zelda Design Docs Reflect the Sublimity of Game Making in 80s



Nintendo is letting us have a glance at the design documents of the original ‘The Legend of Zelda’ game that was released thirty years ago



Ever wondered how games were designed back in the 80s where there wasn’t any technological advancements as like now? Luckily, Nintendo is letting you take a glance at those, as the company has just revealed the design documents of the game map for the original ‘The Legend of Zelda’ game that was released in 1986.

It’s worth a look for all the gamers and developers & designers out there, as the design document reveals the sublimity kept by the game designers in making those.  Having a glance at the original game levels will make you realize that it barely reflects any variation from the design documents, as such is the effort put by makers back then.

It shouldn’t be surprising as to why game designers brought out design documents close to perfection back in the 80s. Today, we are aided with powerful hardware that can keep the designers freed from the concerns of the technical limitations which developers could face. But back in the 80s, the very technical limitations taken into account by developers were also considered with the same seriousness by the designers.

It’s only a short reveal, as it would take pages and pages if to reveal the entire design documents. We are quite sure that won’t get revealed, unless if Nintendo decides to showcase it an expo. But that should be even worth, as the short glimpse itself make us awe-inspired.
